Hello and welcome to my Guitar Lessons London site! I give electric guitar lessons, acoustic guitar lessons and classical guitar lessons. I also give ukulele lessons, music theory lessons (in person or via Skype), and music reading lessons! If you are a singer/songwriter and need some help with your songs, I can help with that too.

I teach rock guitar, indie guitar, pop guitar, folk guitar, fingerstyle guitar, blues guitar etc… If there is something in particular you are looking for just ask – if I can’t help you I may know somebody who can!

I am a full time guitar teacher with a dedicated home studio in a great location (2 minutes walk from Kennington Underground, London), and have formal music qualifications (see my ‘Tuition’ page). I play in two bands; rock/indie trio The Forgers, and Beatles tribute band Ultimate Beatles. I also collaborate with singer/songwriters and play the occasional solo show.

I currently teach adults, from beginner level right up to music graduates and pro musicians – it’s never too late to start.

Please read through the info on this site and feel free to get in touch with any questions, or for my latest lesson rates and special offers.

My pupils speak…

“After a five-year absence from playing, I decided to have lessons to give me an incentive to practise and speed up the learning process. Cliff quickly identified my bad habits and within weeks had me playing cleaner guitar than ever. He teaches with ease across all styles – rock, classical, etc, and brings the right mix of theory and fun to the lesson. Name a song, and within minutes Cliff can start teaching you how to play it – all in the comfort of his cool studio. I’m happy to recommend Cliff Smith as a guitar teacher. Well worth the money. ” Bede; Acoustic guitar lessons.

“I started with Cliff after trying (unsuccessfully) to learn to play guitar using books and guides. I was looking for straight forward advice on playing guitar and Cliff certainly gives that. I have found Cliff to be professional, patient, focused and, most importantly, extremely passionate about guitars in every lesson. Looking forward to more lessons!” Obaid; electric guitar lessons
“Cliff has given me a lot of confidence in my ability in a very short space of time.  His knowledge of music seems to be second to none, and he delivers his lessons in ways that beginners like myself can understand.  Cliff’s teaching style caters for all types of learners, he is patient and will make sure you make progress whilst learning at your own pace.  I tried a few different teachers before Cliff, but didn’t make real progress with any of them. Cliff’s lessons are fun, and you learn the songs you want to learn. He’s enthusiastic, approachable, and fills you with confidence. I’m a teacher myself and I haven’t seen any better than Cliff.”Rob; acoustic guitar lessons.

“Cliff is professional, attentive and patient. I am quite busy and I need straightforward and effective advice, and Cliff gives all that.” Martha; acoustic guitar lessons.

“Cliff’s guitar lessons offer you patient and concise guitar methodology… my guitar playing has improved 200% in the 6 months I have been studying with him… I highly recommend them.” Dave Elkan; classical guitar lessons.

“After having lessons with a few different guitar tutors I have decided that I would very much like to continue my lessons with you. I’m aiming to have one lesson every two weeks, hopefully starting sometime next week if you have any slots available?” Javier; electric guitar lessons.

“I’ve been learning with cliff for over a year now and couldn’t be happier with the progress I’ve made. Cliff is a very talented guitarist/ musician and an excellent teacher, continually providing lessons and pieces which are of interest to me, pushing me to the right limits and very patient! Couldn’t ask for more in an instructor, I always look forward to Monday nights.” Richard Santoso; acoustic guitar lessons.

“Cliff is an extremely talented guitarist and teacher – he’s encouraging, enthusiastic and most importantly patient. Before I started lessons with Cliff I had been trying to learn the guitar for years and had made very little progress. I’m pleased to say that after 6 months of lessons, the guitar is no longer the mystery it once was, and now its all starting to make sense! “ Nick Breeze; acoustic guitar lessons.

“I went to Cliff to bolster my playing after a year in an acoustic guitar class. He noticed things that I was getting away with in a large class. He’s very encouraging, well organised, patient, and a thoroughly professional teacher. “ Clare Roskill; acoustic guitar lessons.

“Relaxed but professional, Cliff’s enthusiasm for the guitar and music in general is evident in each and every lesson. Cliff’s lessons are challenging at the appropriate level, push me in the direction I want to go at the pace that’s right for me, and delivered with a patient and attentive approach.” Zac; classical guitar lessons.

“A fantastic combination of fun and structured learning in a relaxed atmosphere, who’d have thought I’d be emulating Slash in 6 months?” Simon Campbell; acoustic guitar lessons, electric guitar lessons.

“Cliff is very encouraging and has loads of patience even when I haven’t practised much (which is most of the time). He makes a big effort to teach the kind of stuff you really want to play.” Rona McPherson; acoustic guitar lessons.

“Cliff is very patient with me and willing to explore the best way of teaching me. Very tolerant, giving me the freedom to enjoy my instrument.” Claudia; electric guitar lessons, acoustic guitar lessons, music theory lessons.

“Thanks so much for teaching me guitar. You’re the best teacher I could ever have. I’ll miss you loads!!! I’ve loved every minute of my lessons and I hope that one day I’ll be able to play the guitar as well as you.”Phoebe; classical guitar lessons.

“Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher, you have been an inspiration for Noah”.

“Thank you for being a passionate teacher and for getting me up to grade 4!” Noah; classical guitar lessons.

“I wanted to take a moment to offer my heartfelt thanks for all the work you have put in at Shrewsbury House. The boys have flourished under your care… …really going that extra mile because you inspired them to want to do so. The guitar groups have been most impressive with even the headmaster being won over the argument that there was quality and musicianship to be found even if the music wasn’t to his taste. The warmth of response from various audiences should have left you in no doubt that others needed no such persuasion. You leave the school with the quality of guitar playing greatly enriched by your being here. I thank you for that and for the fun it was to have you around”. Peter Morris Director of Music at Shrewsbury House Preparatory School, Surbiton.

“It is with much sadness that we say farewell to Mr Cliff Smith. Cliff joined the instrumental music team in the summer of 2003 and has given outstanding service to the music school during his time with us. Having started with just 3 pupils he has built up the guitar faculty to an enthusiastic and talented group of 25 pupils with a waiting list of eager recruits. I have no doubt that all his pupils will wish to join me in thanking him for his inspirational teaching and wish him well for the future.” Tim Turner, Director of Music, Orley Farm School, Harrow, 2009.

“Thanks for the superb guitar tuition” Khanh Do; acoustic guitar lessons.

“Thank you very much for teaching Sajan, his guitar playing is wonderful”

“Thank you for all your help. I have enjoyed playing the guitar”. Luc; classical guitar lessons.

“Thank you for teaching us”. James & Louis; classical guitar lessons.

“Thanks for being a great guitar teacher!”. Cameron; classical guitar lessons.

“Thank you for teaching me for the past 2 years. I have really enjoyed the lessons and will miss you a lot.” Umer; classical guitar lessons.

“Your fingers seemed to dance.” Ron Haldane; classical guitar lessons.
